Who Should Attend?

This activity is designed for family physicians, general internists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, fellows, residents, and other health care professionals who have an interest in primary care, women’s health and behavioral medicine.

Course Objectives:

By attending, you will be able to:

Wednesday – Pre-Conference Dermatology Workshop (optional)

  • Identify skin lesions requiring clinical intervention including the use of the dermatoscope.
  • Perform the procedural care required for diagnosis and management of skin lesions in the primary care setting, including biopsies, resections, skin closures and cryotherapy.

Thursday – Primary Care

  • Summarize the most recently published data from research and clinical trials and discuss their clinical implications for primary care medicine including prostate cancer screening, treatment of chronic kidney disease, skin cancer evaluation and treatment, identification of cardiac arrhythmias, diabetes management and the management of bariatric surgery patients.
  •  Utilize clinical technology for the monitoring of patient cardiac concerns and arrythmias, comprehend types of monitors and interpret findings for use in primary care.

Friday – Women’s Health

  • Critically appraise the benefits and risks and use of evidence-based guidelines for the management of hormone replacement therapy, female sexual dysfunction, chronic vaginal infections, non-infectious vulvar conditions, as well as screening for bone health with trabecular bone score and for cancer in transgender patients.
  • Provide patient-appropriate, safe, effective women’s healthcare in women across the age spectrum, including special populations. This includes topics in adolescence through geriatrics, also encompassing the LGBTQ+ population and disparities in cardiovascular care among different populations.

Saturday – Behavioral Medicine

  • Assess and care for patients with behavioral health disorders including alcohol use disorder and adult ADHD using both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment.
  • Comprehend the effect of marijuana on the human body including pharmacology, pathophysiology, metabolism, cognitive effects, as well as the indications for therapeutic use of marijuana and the risks and side effects of chronic use.
  • Identify non-pharmacologic integrative treatment regimens for patients with behavioral health disorders using the principles of functional medicine and wellness.
