Overview

Cardiovascular disease medicine is a rapidly evolving discipline. The depth and complexity of the data from research studies and clinical trials currently being generated make it difficult for practitioners to remain up to date on the advances and their clinical implications. Furthermore, evidence-based recommendations for the appropriate use of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are frequently updated as research is published, providing additional challenges to busy practitioners to maintain knowledge and competencies. This educational activity will provide a contemporary update on the latest knowledge and advances in cardiovascular medicine.

Objectives

After completing this educational activity, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Critically review key findings from recent clinical trials and describe their implications in clinical practice.
  • Discuss guideline-derived practices to optimize care for patients with or at risk for CVD.
  • Compare and contrast different metabolic medications such as SGLT2i and GLP1RA and to determine their appropriate uses in cardiovascular disease management.
  • Evaluate medical and procedural options for prevention, detection, risk assessment, rhythm and rate management, and stroke prevention into the care of patients with atrial fibrillation.
  • Analyze the evidence on traditional and contemporary pharmacotherapies, monitoring, and therapeutic devices, to prioritize treatment in heart failure management.
  • Evaluate special considerations of heart failure care including cardio-oncology, cardiogenic shock, critical care cardiology, cardio-obstetrics, cardiometabolic considerations, and cardiac amyloidosis and HOCM.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive, evidence-based care in the evaluation and management of ischemic heart disease.
  • Discuss current guidelines and recommend best practices for valvular care in clinical practice.
  • Apply knowledge to reduce cardiovascular risks through optimal management of dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes.

Target Audience

Practicing cardiologists, cardiology residents, fellows and other healthcare providers seeking a comprehensive review of contemporary cardiovascular medicine.
