Biologic Therapies: Clinical Implications for Rheumatologists, Gastroenterologists, Allied Health Practitioners Monograph
This manuscript presents a review of biologics in specific populations with diseases related to rheumatology and gastroenterology as well as presentations on how to effectively administer the agents.
Cardiovascular Disease in Inflammatory Arthritis: Getting to the Heart of the Matter Monograph
Studies have shown a clear link between inflammatory mediators and the development of cardiovascular disease, which has led to research on inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines. In clinical trials using TNF inhibitors, most data suggest that blocking TNF production can decrease the incidence of some cardiovascular events. However, TNF inhibitors have been associated with increases in other cardiovascular diseases, resulting in their contraindication in these patient populations. Clinical trials with investigational interleukin-receptor antagonists have shown positive results on some systemic inflammatory markers.

These research efforts have created a need for medical education providing evidence-based discussions of advances in cytokine inhibition and their effect on the care of patients with cardiovascular disease associated with inflammatory arthritis. This includes a review of the biologic mechanisms, potential therapeutic options for this patient population, risk-benefit ratios of each, and specific patient-selection criteria.

Four Cases in Lead Management
This online monograph presents four cases that illustrate conditions requiring lead extraction and treatment of complications in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices.
From MDS to AML and Back Again: How Disease Biology Allows Us to Personalize Therapy
The goal of this online monograph is to improve patient outcomes by educating hematology practitioners and researchers on the distribution and subtypes of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In addition to pathobiology and clonal evolution, it will also explore disease progression and treatment approaches for patients with MDS or AML syndromes with a focus on overlapping therapies. Articles will encompass development of treatment strategies that target mechanisms of neoplastic evolution and other basic MDS and AML disorder mechanisms.
Severe Asthma
The focus of this educational program is to present an evidence-based review of research on more severe asthma disease and analyze treatment options for these patients. Experts in asthma specialties will review the most germane published data and evaluate their implications for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma. Talks are presented on the biologic and pathophysiologic understandings of asthma, characteristics and classification of asthma, and treatment strategies.
