The course will focus on management of patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).  It is designed to heighten awareness of all health care professionals treating patients with HIV through a state-of-the-art review of current research results and new insights on HIV care.

Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

  • Describe the areas of concern and controversy in the field of HIV;
  • Discuss issues concerning reproductive health and perinatal transmission of HIV in female patients;
  • Compare and contrast the efficacy, safety, and resistance potential of antiretroviral therapeutics;
  • Define the complex issues in antiretroviral  therapy, comorbidities (including metabolic bone disease), and infectious complications, especially hepatitis;
  • Describe new classes of antiviral agents, resistance patterns, and sequencing strategies;
    Summarize initial data publications from large, ongoing clinical trials in patients with HIV.

Taxi service is available from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center.  As an alternative, take the rapid transit train from the airport to the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland and from there take a taxi to the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center.

Accreditation

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.   Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Participants claiming CME credit from this activity may submit the credit hours to the American Osteopathic Association Council on Continuing Medical Education for Category 2 credit.

The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept at face value the number of contact hours awarded for an educational activity that has been approved for CE by a nationally accredited system of CE approval.  Therefore, the 8.25 physician AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ will be accepted for nursing credits.  Nurses from other states should contact their State Board of Nursing.

In case of cancellation, a full refund will be made if cancelled by May 3, 2010.  After May 3, 2010, a $25 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund.  Written notification of your cancellation is required to process your refund.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER JUNE 15, 2010.
