Rheumatology Highlights Report
Do you have 15 minutes? A patient cancelled an
appointment or you finished a meeting early? Give us
15 minutes and we will give you the world of rheumatology.
The Rheumatology Highlights Report is designed for the busy clinician. It is designed to provide highlights from key scientific presentations and/or abstracts presented at international and national rheumatology meetings. Clinical experts attending these meetings have selected the most significant data to report. Each activity includes a 15-minute presentation with supporting materials and commentary on the clinical implications of the data. This series offer two methods of participation: on your computer or mobile device.
Target Audience
Rheumatologists are the primary audience for these activities, as well as other health care professionals managing patients with rheumatic disease, including primary care practitioners, internists, and cardiologists.

Series Objectives
- Describe current rends in management of autoimmune and inflammatory disease including issues such as monitoring disease activiity, damage treating to target and relate to key laboratory and imaging modalities.
- Summarize results from biologic studies and discuss potential implications for clinical practice.
- Synthesize data from clinical trials using biologic or nonbiologic therapies and assess their impact on clinical practice.
- Discuss new and emerging biologic therapies, especially T-cell and B-cell targeting therapy as they apply to RA and SLE and Vasculitis.
- Review data on the efficacy and side effects of biologic therapies in RA-associated diseases.
- Describe the potential for serious infections associated with biologic therapies and explain steps for recognizing and diagnosing the events.
- Describe the molecular basis of intracellular signaling pathways (eg, JAK-STAT and other kinase pathways) as they relate to immune physiology in health and disease.
- Describe advances in key rheumatic disorders including systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis and gout.
- Describe advances in the management of metabolic bone disease.
- Describe cardiovascular morbidity and its relationship to RA, SLE and vasculitis pathogenesis and treatment.
