NEW ADDITION FOR 2011

Focused Review in Interventional Electrophysiology: Extraction and Ablation
Saturday, August 20, 2011

Description

Dear Colleague,

We are exceedingly pleased to invite you to the 12th Annual Intensive Review of Cardiology, August 21 – 24, 2011, at the InterContinental Hotel and Bank of America Conference Center on the Cleveland Clinic campus in Cleveland, Ohio.

This continues to be a wonderful forum to critically review current thinking and management of all the major cardiovascular disciplines. The symposium focus will be on practicing cardiologists and the delivery of contemporary cardiovascular medicine including complex patient management decision making. Cardiovascular Board Certification and Re-certification Examination candidates will also find this symposium useful.

Our aim is that this will be fun, clinically relevant, and stimulating. To achieve this goal, we will continue to integrate audience interaction with review of cases, images, and relevant data during the lectures. This year, the program is scheduled for four days. We have introduced more interactive panel discussions and will further test your knowledge at the close of each day, emphasizing key patient care management concepts.

We plan on highlighting the clinical evaluation and management of the patient encountered in daily practice. The current ACC/AHA guidelines supporting treatment and management recommendations will be referenced as will treatment controversies and dilemmas. Interactive patient management evening sessions specific to electrophysiology and the cardiac catheterization laboratory are also planned.

We are pleased to introduce two new educational opportunities this year:

  • A presymposium titled Focused Review in Interventional Electrophysiology: Extraction and Ablation will be offered on Saturday August 20, from noon to 6:00 pm.

  • Electrocardiogram for the Boards – Interactive Session will be offered Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.

Our evening reception will be held on Monday, August 22, at which time you will have an opportunity to interact with us in a less formal setting. This will be followed by two evening presentations.

In addition to these broad symposium goals, many other important topics and cases will be included. The Bank of America Conference Center has exceptional features that enhance learning and comfort. As symposium codirectors, we truly hope you will be able to join us in August for this exciting and memorable educational event.

Sincerely,

Brian Griffin, MD  |  Curtis M. Rimmerman, MD  |  Samir Kapadia, MD

Objectives

After participating in this symposium, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Summarize the current understanding of the pathophysiology of acute coronary syndromes;
  • Explain management strategies for acute myocardial infarction and describe the major clinical trials that have shaped those strategies;
  • List the various noninvasive modalities available to evaluate coronary artery and valvular heart disease and describe their merits, complementary roles, roles in patient management, and prognostic values;
  • Interpret both common and complex 12-lead electrocardiograms and analyze subtle yet clinically important findings relevant to the board examination;
  • Describe the current medical and surgical treatment options in patients with congestive heart failure including the major clinical trials that have shaped practice behaviors.
  • Identify the pathophysiology, evaluation, modalities, and treatment options in patients with valvular heart disease including a comprehensive review of echocardiography;
  • Evaluate and treat patients with complex dysrhythmias and describe the indications for electrophysiology testing, pacemaker implantation, and ICD placement in these patients;
  • Recognize and appropriately treat the clinical scenarios in cardiovascular medicine used in the examinations for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease.
