Description

Internationally recognized rheumatology authorities provide their unique medical perspectives on cutting-edge data presented at EULAR 2010, extracting and distilling the most pertinent information from the thousands of abstracts and presentations. These experts will discuss the changing landscape of rheumatology and its practical implications on clinical practice. Special emphasis will focus on identifying the most clinically germane advances in B-cell therapies for RA, SLE, and vasculitis.

Overall, these programs will be an excellent opportunity for health care practitioners to experience the best and most important aspects of EULAR 2010 without leaving the United States.

Objectives

Rheumatology Highlights Report Live

  • Describe advances in rheumatology-related therapeutics from recent national and international meetings;
  • Critically appraise data on risks and benefits from new and emerging therapies;
  • Discuss advances in key diseases including RA, spondyloarthopathies, psoriatic arthritis, SLE, vasculitis, gout, and metabolic bone disease;
  • Review and discuss recent consensus statements on disease management.

Advances in B Cell Biology: RA, SLE, and Vasculitis

  • Summarize research on advances in B-cell biology including the expanded role of B cells and their products in the integrated immune response;
  • Describe the role of cytokine messengers, such as BLyS (BAFF) and APRIL, and their receptors in B-cell biology;
  • Describe new strategies to interdict the role of B cells based on targeting cell-associated molecules such as CD20, CD22, CD19, and soluble factors such as BLyS, lymphotoxin beta, and others;
  • Critically appraise new data on the efficacy and safety of currently approved B-cell targeting agents and describe emerging data on new B-cell targeting strategies in RA;
  • Discuss results from clinical trials in patients with SLE and critically appraise data from recent clinical trials targeting B cells and their survival and maturation factors;
  • Review the evolution and rationale for biologic therapies for systemic vasculitis and critically appraise data from recent international studies on B-cell directed therapies;
  • Recognize and diagnose the key complications of biologic B-cell targeting therapies, including viral infections such as progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML).
