Description

Pediatric Ethics 2010: Advancing the Interests of Children is a unique, multidisciplinary program developed to promote thoughtful discourse and principled debate regarding a broad range of longstanding and newly emerging issues in the field of pediatric medical ethics.

Participants will experience opportunities to interact closely with leaders in the fields of bioethics and pediatric health care as they address matters germane to pediatric medical ethics. These topics include consultation models, end-of-life decision-making and palliative care, dilemmas in neonatal and pediatric intensive care, ethical challenges in the ambulatory care setting, and ethical issues relating to pediatric research and health care reform.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Northern Ohio Regional Pediatric Ethics Consortium (NORPEC) invites interested individuals to submit abstracts to be considered for poster session. Abstract content should be geared to course content. This consortium is a collaboration of Children’s Hospital Cleveland Clinic, Akron Children's Hospital, Hospice of the Western Reserve, MetroHealth Medical Center, and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, researchers, educators, chaplains, social workers, ethicists, lawyers, and anyone with an interest in issues relevant to pediatric ethics.

Objectives

After completing this learning activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

  • Identify common ethical challenges distinctive to pediatric practice and discuss relevant consult models, structure, and process;
  • Identify ethical challenges associated with cutting-edge neonatal and pediatric intensive care and elaborate on applicable principles, duties, and virtues;
  • Describe ethical considerations surrounding care of children as the nation works toward major health care reforms and as communities establish pandemic preparedness plans;
  • Discuss key ethical insights with respect to provision of palliative care for children;
  • Describe ethical dilemmas encountered by ambulatory care providers and discuss approaches and resources to address these dilemmas.

Accreditation

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Center for Continuing Education designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Participants claiming CME credit from this activity may submit the credit hours to the American Osteopathic Association Council on Continuing Medical Education for Category 2 credit.

The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept at face value the number of contact hours awarded for an educational activity that has been approved for CE by a nationally accredited system of CE approval. Therefore, the 15.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM will be accepted for nursing credits.

This course has been approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education for 15.00 total CLE hour(s) instruction.

In case of cancellation, a full refund will be made if canceled by April 12, 2010. After April 12, 2010, a $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund. Written notification of your cancellation is required to process your refund.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER MAY 31, 2010.
