Overview
Attending DDW this year? |
As a surgical innovation, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery has been shown to improve outcomes compared with outcomes from traditional open laparoscopy surgery. However, these laparoscopic surgeries require substantial technical skills, creating a need for educational activities focused on this topic.
To fill this need, we have developed an educational activity focused on minimally invasive surgery using natural orifices and single-site incisions:
- Single-Port Laparoscopy,
- LESS (Laparo- Endoscopic Single-Site surgery)
- Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTESĀ®)
- Endoluminal Surgery
This multi-disciplinary learning activity is designed for physicians and surgeons from various specialties interested in becoming skilled with the procedural techniques and understanding the challenges and benefits of these surgeries. Plenary sessions and live surgery demonstrations will be held in the morning with hands-on workshops in the afternoon.
| This course meets the guidelines as established in the "Framework for Post-Residency Surgical Education and Training" and is endorsed by the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). |
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians and surgeons from various specialties interested in the minimally invasive techniques of Single-Port Laparoscopy and NOTES including gastroenterology, urology, nephrology, gynecology, colorectal surgery, and general surgery.
Learning Objectives
After completing this learning activity, the participant will be able to do the following:
- Identify the anatomic basis of Single-Port Laparoscopy, NOTES and Endoluminal;
- Define the standardized terminology for these techniques;
- Explain the potential benefits and limitations of Single-Port Laparoscopy, NOTES, and Endoluminal surgery;
- Describe instruments and optics and explain their implications and use for these technologies;
- Demonstrate competence in use of instrumentation and techniques on animal models;
- Discuss the importance of patient selection criteria and their impact on clinical outcomes.
- Describe privilege and practice guidelines, billing
